The Louisiana Health Care Quality Forum is the organization running LaHIE, the Health Information Exchange in Louisiana. LaHIE has many achievements to its credit, but I speak with Cindy Munn, CEO of Louisiana Health Care Quality Forum, mostly about one of them – identifying patients who are misusing the Emergency Department. In fact, in Louisiana, 41% of patients visiting the ED are for non-emergency reasons, and one of those reasons is trying to get an Rx for an opioid. Hydrocodone is the drug most often prescribed by EDs, as it stands.
