Whenever I want to know who’s doing what in healthcare, I head over to Dave Chase’s articles on LinkedIn and Forbes. Somehow or another, he manages to summarize all the most important stuff in three paragraphs. Today I speak with Chris Cornue, who is a senior VP over at SG2 focused on SG2’s center for the future. Chris’ goal is to help healthcare organizations like hospital systems or life science companies understand what is likely to happen in the future so that it’s possible to get ahead of the problem and prevent it from happening in the first place.

In order to engage patients, we need CX, UI/UX. We need to be customer-centric, workflow-centric, all the other kinds of centric and in the middle of this circle is the patient. But for the rest of an EHR system, the center is the provider. So an EHR system who thinks about their patient portal with the same lens as they’re thinking about the rest of their provider-centric EHR… is going to get a step-child afterthought of a patient portal. And consumers these days demand more than that.

Most coordinated care efforts center around a clinical episode or a clinical assessment in a clinical setting. It’s rarely “Let’s watch over this patient while they are not a patient, but a resident, living their lives day-to-day in a senior care community or facility. Let’s let someone know if Dad isn’t playing scrabble anymore.” Because Scrabble matters, arguably, just as much as a couple points here or there in Dad’s blood pressure.
